<![CDATA[Handmade items for you and your best friend. - RockBug Blog]]>Sun, 27 May 2012 18:00:56 -0500Weebly<![CDATA[The holidays are right around the corner]]>Sun, 18 Dec 2011 10:24:35 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2011/12/the-holidays-are-right-around-the-corner.htmlI wanted to take a moment and say Happy Holidays to all of my fabulous customers! Thank you all for being amazing this year. I have a feeling that next year will be even better and maybe even a little more fun. I have some new designs that I'm working on, so stay tuned for those.

I'll be visiting family in VA from December 20-27. Don't worry though, I'll be taking my inventory with me so I can continue shipping out orders. I won't be able to complete any custom work during that week though. Any custom, hand stamped pet tags will have to wait until I return, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Thanks again, everyone! Stay warm and have a great holiday season!

<![CDATA[Carrier tags are here!]]>Thu, 18 Aug 2011 15:10:57 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2011/08/carrier-tags-are-here.htmlWhy should cats and dogs have all the fun accessories? RockBug is now offering a special line of custom pet carrier tags. Attach one to your small pet's carrier to add a little fun and practicality.

You will find them on the "Custom pet tag sets" page. There are currently 2 different designs available. 1) Your last name stamped with a sterling silver heart on a copper disc. 2) Your pet's first and last name, as well as a small heart stamped on a copper disc.

I find that these help keep my guinea pig carrier from being misplaced while visiting the vet.

In the coming weeks, you'll see some additional changes. I'll be adding more photos of each item. Something I've been wanting to do for a while. I'm also aware that not everyone has high speed internet access. If you experience a significant lag in pages loading, please let me know.

<![CDATA[Summer is right around the corner]]>Mon, 16 May 2011 09:32:31 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2011/05/summer-is-right-around-the-corner.htmlThe days are getting warmer and longer. We've taken down the heaters and put up the fans and a/c units. We've started our garden, full of yummy fruit and veggie plants. And one of our favorite places, the drive-in theater, has opened up for the season. We love going to a double feature (a bargain, by the way) and enjoying the night air.

Spending time outside really fuels my creativity. I find myself making more "natural" pieces than usual. You'll find stones, mother of pearl and animals in my work this season.

<![CDATA[Metal stamping]]>Mon, 21 Feb 2011 18:31:20 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2011/02/metal-stamping.htmlSo now that things have calmed down from the holiday season, I can be found most evenings working on my metal stamping.

When I'm not working on my custom pet ID tag sets, I'm having a blast working on new techniques. Currently, I'm experimenting with oxidizing and finishing. Check out my sterling silver "FOXY' necklace to see an example.

I've added a new set of letters, as well. These are lowercase and should result in some fun creations. Stay tuned to see what I come up with! ]]>
<![CDATA[The craziness of the season]]>Mon, 06 Dec 2010 16:06:01 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2010/12/the-craziness-of-the-season.htmlNo matter how you spend your season, I think we can all agree that things can get hectic. It's so easy to get caught up in the chaos and forget about ourselves. If you're like me, you have never ending to-do lists and errands that must be done. It seems like we're always on the go.

And as the time quickly approaches for me to head to VA to visit family, I have a ton of things to do in preparation. This year I've promised myself that I will take it easy and make time to enjoy the little things. This morning I stayed out with the pup a little longer than usual and enjoyed the beautiful falling snow. As a result, I came back in with a smile on my face. So my advice is, try to find some time for yourself even if it's just a few minutes a day.

It's tough to go away when you're a small business. I'll be available while I'm away and since my jewelry making is relaxing for me, I will be working as well. It will likely be smaller projects since there's no way I can lug all the tools and supplies with me!

<![CDATA[Seasonal items at great prices!]]>Wed, 15 Sep 2010 17:09:58 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2010/09/seasonal-items-at-great-prices.htmlIt's that time again! With the evenings getting cooler, it's time to break out the warmer clothes. Don't forget about your pup. We have some fun Halloween and wintery themed hoodies that are great for those afternoon walks.

You've probably noticed the "Spooky Jewelry" page. You'll find some really fun and unique handmade jewelry there. These pieces have a Halloween theme to them but they'd make fantastic everyday jewelry as well.

So take a look around, you'll find some fabulous deals. Remember it's never too early to start that holiday shopping.

<![CDATA[One stop shopping for cavy owners]]>Wed, 21 Jul 2010 13:32:44 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2010/07/one-stop-shopping-for-cavy-owners.htmlI wanted to take a moment and put in an entry about a great resource for guinea pig owners.

RockBug's friend at This Little Piggie Marketplace has a fantastic website, stocked full of all your guinea pig needs and some fun human items. Everything from fun toys to medications. It's one stop shopping!

She recently authored a great care guide. I've read it, cover to cover and it's fabulous. It gives a nice little intro to the world of cavies and moves on to basic care and how to care for an ill pig. The author herself is an experienced slave (as in cavy slave). I know when I'm dealing with with a sick pig, we talk about it at great lengths and she always has great advice.

Check it out, you won't be disappointed. I get all my supplies there.

<![CDATA[Boy, it's hot!]]>Fri, 09 Jul 2010 17:26:06 -0500http://www.rockbug.org/1/post/2010/07/boy-its-hot.html

It's HOT out lately and everyone is feeling it. Even the pigs are sick of the heat and want some cooler weather. Kumar loves to stretch out and nap in a sun beam but we have to block out some of the sun on hot days. I change out their water a few times a day to keep it fresh and cool. We spend a lot of time making sure everyone is comfortable.

Rockford's trips outside are quicker and we're watching his water intake. It's no fun walking around in 95 degrees. Most days, you can find him sleeping on his chair enjoying the a/c.

Here's hoping for cooler days! In the meantime, we'll be enjoying some cold cocktails...indoors.
